Friends of Hope Air in Quesnel Fundraising Volunteers

New Years Eve fundraiser in Quesnel, BCFriends of Hope Air in Quesnel, BC is a fundraising group that started raising funds for Hope Air in 2015 after local residents Terry and Lynne Worden learned about Hope Air through a friend. Wanting to give back, Terry and Lynne started fundraising through Facebook, and then through the FundRazr website.

They approached Denise Carlson to expand their promotion of Hope Air and fundraising capacity. Soon Denise reached out to Elizabeth Ross, who involved her friend Melissa Pollock. More and more members of the community joined the fundraising group and they set about thinking up ways to raise funds for Hope Air.

A major brainstorming session drew them to the conclusion that their community doesn’t respond well to online campaigns, but they can raise funds with community events. Quesnel is a small community of 10,007 residents...and a very generous community that pays it forward often!

And so the idea of a New Year’s Gala Masquerade was born. It would be a fun night out to celebrate the New Year while raising money for Hope Air flights.

The group worked hard to pull the event together, donating their time and talent to organizing an exciting evening celebration, and soliciting donations from local businesses to support.

On December 31, 2016, 150 people donned masks for the gala and counted down to the New Year. The event was a major success, selling out and surpassing their $5,000 goal, instead raising an incredible $7,500.

Spurred on by their success, the group decided to organize the event again in 2017.  This year the New Year’s Gala will be held at the Seniors’ Centre with “The Great Gatsby” as the theme.

The group felt that just one event per year was not enough, and they must somehow keep Hope Air’s name in people’s minds throughout the year.

They decided to host an Pub night volunteers in Quesnel, BCopen season-themed pub night, again setting their sights at a $5,000 goal. The Quesnel community came out for the evening in full force and many purchased tickets to a raffle for two WestJet tickets. When the donations were counted up, the event had raised over $16,000, more than tripling their goal.

Both Melissa and Elizabeth aim to have Friends of Hope Air - Quesnel expand to nearby communities in Williams Lake and Prince George, with the hope of one day becoming the Friends of Hope Air - Northern BC.
