Our Flight Programs

Hope Air operates three different flight programs:

The Commercial Airline Donation Program relies on the generosity of many of Canada’s leading airlines which donate flights to get people to healthcare outside their local communities. While these seats are donated, Hope Air still has a “real cost” per passenger flown – we pay taxes, airport improvement fees, security charges, surcharges and program costs related to Client care.

The Flight Purchase Program: Because of limitations in our airline partners’ ability to donate as many flights as needed, and restrictions on the Volunteer Pilot Program due to the weather and other factors, Hope Air may purchase seats to get Clients to medical care. Flight costs vary and Hope Air needs the generous financial support of individuals, corporations and foundations to fund ticket purchases.

The Volunteer Pilot Program partners with private pilots who use their aircraft to get people to their medical appointments. Even though Hope Air reimburses the Volunteer Pilots for a percentage of their fuel costs, our Volunteer Pilots make an enormous financial contribution as well. The cost of VPP flights is comprised of fees, fuel costs, operating costs and program costs.
